Karen and her two daughters live in a house that’s almost 100 years old. It has “good bones.” The basement could use some help. I suggested my tried-and-true method. In my work as a professional organizer, it’s worked well to start in one corner, and work our way around the room.
We straightened photography equipment in a corner, then moved on to examining lots of boxes. Would some be “presentable” enough for mailing holiday presents? Yes. We placed them in a couple of boxes, next to the tall bin of wrapping paper. We set aside others to be recycled.
We sifted through bins holding lots of items that could be donated for kids’ holiday presents. We also rearranged some shelves where games and puzzles “live,” and cleared the floor space in front of them.
Where did the time go? It flew by. We scheduled another session for a few days later, to continue clearing clutter in the basement.
