Having seen a Front Porch Forum posting, Andrea got in touch. She’s busy and is generally well-organized, but could use help in a few areas of her spacious, light-filled house. Her daughter recently left for college, so we could work in her bedroom. What was bugging her most?

She is a doctor, sharing an office with colleagues. She doesn’t have enough space to do charting and other administrative work at her workplace, so she does it at home. Her home office, where she also meditates, needed some attention. We would focus there first, before clearing clutter in other parts of the house.

How to start? I explained the general method of working our way around the room, so we first cleared the top of a two-drawer filing cabinet next to the door.

Next, we worked on her bookshelves, which made her happy. Next to them, we pulled some big binders from the floor, which she placed on the bookshelves.

Time flew! We had hoped to clear the desk which, full of energy and enthusiasm, Andrea pledged to do on her own after our first session. Her photo, from a slightly different angle, follows.

As we finished, we planned work in other rooms, pulled out our calendars, and scheduled our next session. As she wrote afterwards, Andrea was “All smiles!”
