Meghan is very motivated to clear basement clutter in her family’s home. Her goal is for it to become a fun and safe play space for two young children, and also an effective storage space, where items are safely stored and easily seen. Hopefully, the two functions won’t conflict.

In our next session, she wanted to focus on a small area that was chock-full of stuff. It held a small fridge, a wood storage piece that’s been in her family for years, and some metal/wire shelves that she wanted to completely clear. Also there – full clear plastic bins, laundry baskets, and boxes to explore, plus folded and stacked chairs. Could we do it in three hours? Sure!

Meghan would want to leave the metal/wire shelves empty to eventually hold toys for the children to reach. Methodically, we started in, separating items to be stored, or tossed, or donated, or recycled.

We also pulled items from under the stairs, repeating the process. In the newly-cleared space, we put in the very back a bagged artificial Christmas tree then, closer to the front, a box with tall, clear glass cylinders. They were used to hold branch decorations during her winter wedding years ago.

What area might be next? That was to be determined. We work together once a month, so it will be fun to learn what she’ll want to focus on next time, as we clear the basement clutter, making the space more useable for her family.
