In our next project together, Jeanne and I cleared the crafts room closet clutter. It wasn’t bad at all, certainly not like some seen in the twelve years of operating De-clutter Me!
As is my professional organizer’s tried-and-true practice, we started on a left shelf and worked our way down. We consolidated some games, and turned some bedding pieces around, so that their folds would show, rather than their ends. Why? It’s a simple and subtle thing to do, yet it’s powerful. It makes looking at the closet’s contents much easier on the eyes. We would repeat it as we worked our way across the closet.
The bin at the bottom now held some items to bring to summer camp.
We continued across the closet, moving some items and refolding them. Again, it would be easier on the eyes.
With the closet clutter cleared, Jeanne could see everything easier. Bonus points – with the distractions gone, she also could more easily look at her hanging summer clothes, to try on, and then to decide what to keep or to donate. Success!
