Aurora emailed. I responded, and we scheduled time to talk. How did she learn about my business? Her mother, in southern Vermont, found De-clutter Me! online, and recommended me. That’s nice! The family had moved into the apartment several weeks before, and Aurora wanted new systems to keep the home neat and tidy.

When I arrived, Aurora showed me around, then we discussed how to spend our time together. What was bugging her the most? The living room and the table. She would focus on the table and the floor below it, and I would tackle the living room.

To guide Aurora, I asked lots of questions. Were items used a lot? If so, where to store them? If not, to toss or recycle? She made excellent progress on the table and below it.

When the table was cleared, I took a pothos plant that was on top of the fridge, and placed it in the middle of the table, and suggested that Aurora buy some placemats to put on the table, and to leave them there. They would honor family mealtimes and, hopefully, keep the table from becoming a dumping ground again.

The living room floor held some clothes, which I added to an already-started basket of laundry. Also, there were lots of toys, seemingly waiting to be placed in the toys bookcase. That done, I also put a few on the corner standing lamp’s shelves.

Next, I worked on the TV console. There were some diapers. I asked Aurora for a container, then put them below. She advised about the remotes.

Turning around, I focused on the nice vintage wing chair, adding a throw and small pillow to make it look more inviting. I pushed back the curtain that had been draped over it, and put some big bags behind it, to keep the center of the floor clear.

Aurora’s husband Colby arrived home from work, and we showed him our work. He was pleased, as Aurora was with our clearing the living room and table. What would be next? That was to be determined but, for the moment, they were happy.
