In our final session together, Laurel, Vikke and I worked on (what I often consider to be) the most fun part of my work with clients – hanging art work. It’s a powerful visual reward for the preceding hard work of making decisions, organizing, and otherwise changing “chaos to calm.”
(Also, during this part of work with clients, I get to channel my mother. She was a talented artist, painting in oils. While I inherited none of her artistic talent, I did pick up some of her “eye,” which is useful as I assist/guide clients when we hang their art.)
When Laurel hastily moved into her condo in November 2024, there wasn’t time to arrange items nicely. When I arrived for our first session together in November 2025, with her incredibly helpful and supportive sister Vikke, I took photos of some areas around the condo. The following shows one spot – in the kitchen/dining area. After we cleared its clutter, a couple of months later, we hung a couple of pieces, including one from Laurel’s collection of angels.
In an earlier session, when asked, Laurel said that she generally doesn’t sleep well. We cleared bedroom clutter, set aside lots of yarn to give away, and moved furniture around. A postscript about the yarn, which I’d given to Becky, another alto in the women’s chorus Bella Voce. She gave it to her daughter, a nurse at Stony Brook Hospital on Long Island. Becky wrote the following – “She crochets afghans to donate to the hospital for patients. She was delighted to take this yarn for her projects…A few months ago she saw one of her creations on a patient who came down for imaging! (She works in the Radiology dept).” That’s the BEST! When someone can’t use something, the opportunity to pass it to someone else, who can make good use of it, helps us all!
After clearing the bedroom clutter and moving furniture around, we hung some art there. Two of the pieces were done by Laurel and Vikke’s mother. She was talented! See how the three pieces make the room feel more inviting and warm!
Vikke was very helpful as we hung the pieces mentioned, and also moved some other pieces in the condo. She and Laurel were very pleased. Success!
